August 2006

This year Mongolia will celebrate the 800th birthday of Genghis Khan. There has been much publicity to attract foreigners to the "Blue Sky" wide open country. As we walk down the street and see foreigners walking on the other side, we have been known to ask each other, "What are all those foreigners doing here in our country?" Then we really realize that we are foreigners to the Mongolians. They have made us feel so much at home and we are so excited to be here and see what God is doing! It is a real blessing and privilege to be here and share the Good News!

With so much publicity and planned festivities, the whole country is becoming very commercial. Tourism is at an all time high and the average people are getting lost in the crowd. Are we getting lost in the commercialism of this world? Do we desire fame and fortune more that we desire the things of God? Are we getting lost in the crowd and looking like every one else or do we look like foreigners? Or are we letting our light shine as Christians and can people see Jesus through us? Yes, we want to be foreigners because we may be in the world but we are not of it. We want to tell others about the Good News of our true home. "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ." Philippians 3:20. But we do not want to stand out as just a tourist. We want to make relationships for an eternity.

As Mongolians are preparing for this big celebration, the Shamanists are preparing ritual ceremonies throughout the countryside. Evidently animal sacrifices will be offered during these ceremonies. When we hear reports like this we are reminded of how great the need is here for the lost to receive Jesus Christ. We are also reminded that where sin abounds grace does much more abound! Please pray against the spiritual darkness and for the light of Jesus to shine to those who need to find Him.

You are helping us as we are part of the great commission. We appreciate your prayers, encouragement, and support! Please pray and agree with us that we will continue to let Jesus shine through us and be salt to this nation. Genghis Khan tried to conquer the world by force but we want to conquer with our stand for the Lord.

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14
